Sara Bareilles: "Gravity"

I really enjoy Sara Bareilles, and it's nice to see
a bit of recognition finally coming her way, especially
since hers is not a style that is as widely commercial
these days as it was in, say, the mid-1990s.

Singer-songwriters with real talent and meaningful
lyrics are an unfortunately rare breed, especially with
the generally more sedated affectations in tow.

Sara has that plucky "girl next door" quality of a
Suzanne Vega or Shawn Colvin, but she has her own
personality and spirit to offer.

"Gravity" portrays the sense of overcoming a codependent
relation in the typically painful course that follows under-
standing and efforts to disengage. Mournful, solemn, and
quirkily defiant, it matches my mood in overcoming that
familiar pull of those dark vortexes. (And I love that
imaginative video. Brilliant.)

I've also included the vid for "King of Anything." It's
massively overplayed, possibly because everyone and
their brother knows someone like this and it's become an
anthem. It's nonetheless excellent and the attention
is deserved. Gives a different perspective on her abilities,
too, and is linked to "Gravity" by theme, so I'll include it here!

I think Sara and I could definitely share a cup of Java
and share man woes sometime! Peace out, girl....better days
are a-comin'!
